Reeling Red Sox turn to Wakefield

Boston's Tim Wakefield became the oldest pitcher to start an ALCS game. Wakefield, who still lives in Brevard County, is 42. . . . for-10 in the ALCS. Varitek, who did not play last night because knuckleballer Tim Wakefield pitched, is 0 for 10 in the ALCS. At 42 years, 73 days old, Tim Wakefield is the oldest pitcher to start an ALCS when he took the mound Tuesday in Boston. The number of innings Red Sox starter Tim Wakefield lasted Tuesday. Tim Wakefield, who led the Red Sox with 25 homers allowed during the regular season, made his first appearance in 16 days. There are only four players left from the '04 team (Tim Wakefield, David Ortiz, Jason Varitek and Mike Timlin). Verducci thinks the Red Sox are in a dicey situation with Tim Wakefield going tonight in Game 4. Andy Sonnanstine wil pitch for the Rays against Boston knuckleballer Tim Wakefield. The Rays lead the series 2 games to 1. 6 with a 7.54 ERA in the post-season with Boston.
