Thursday marks Yom Kippur, the holiest day of the Jewish year. The name Yom Kippur means “Day of Atonement” and occurs shortly after Rosh Hashanah on the 10th day of Tishri. In celebration of the Jewish holiday of Yom Kippur, many will perform the ancient Jewish ceremony of kapparot. Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, is considered the most solemn day of the Jewish year.
