Harper Wins Approval to Suspend Canada Parliament, Aide Says

General Michaelle Jean has some options. Thursday, Harper sought and won a suspension of Parliament from Governor General Michaelle Jean until Jan. 26. Michaelle Jean agreed to prorogue the House yesterday. That means Parliament will be in recess until Jan. confidence vote scheduled for Monday. Michaëlle Jean has now followed the precedent set by the voters in 1926, and was right to do so. Michaëlle Jean has granted the prime minister's request to suspend Parliament until the end of January. Michaëlle Jean agreed to prorogue Parliament, before resuming its downward trend. General Michaëlle Jean agreed to Prime Minister Stephen Harper's request today to suspend Parliament until Jan. To Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, Governor General of Canada. Harper met with Governor General Michaelle Jean, the country’s titular head of state, to make his request at a meeting today in Ottawa.
